World Equestrian Brands Helmet Cam: Fjord Trail Ride

Yeah, yeah, we know we’re supposed to keep our eyes up when we’re riding … BUT LOOK AT THAT MANE!

Fjord riders of the world, you have all of my respect, because if I had a Fjord I would spent 100% of my time in the saddle watching that iconic black-striped mane waving back and forth. I dare everyone about to watch this video to try to not get sucked in to that adorableness.

So how did you do? Did you enjoy the scenery? Or did you watch that adorable Norwegian Fjord the whole time?

Chester Weber just won his thirteenth career Live Oak International combined driving event, sweeping all three phases with his fabulous four-in-hand. This latest accomplishment caps an impressive list of achievements, including an individual silver medal at the 2014 World Equestrian Games as well as being the first American driver to win in Aachen.

Weber brings us along for his winning dressage test — climb right up to the driver’s bench and get a good look at what it’s like to pilot the four bay KWPN geldings Boris W, Danzer, Para and Ultra.

The Live Oak International combined driving event takes place in February each year at the Live Oak Plantation in Ocala, Florida, drawing the best drivers in North America to contend for top honors. Combined driving tests a driver and team’s ability to execute a dressage test, display endurance and accuracy in the cross-country-like marathon phase and finally test navigation in the cones phase — truly like three-day eventing on wheels with four horses instead of just one.

Go Chester Weber, and go driving!

World Equestrian Brands Helmet Cam: Cappadocia

Today’s riding adventure via helmet cam: the Cappadocia region of Turkey!

Each Wednesday, we share a “helmet cam” or rider’s-eye view of a unique competition, fun experience or exotic riding location from somewhere around the world. Today, we’re back on the trail, taking you to Turkey for a trail ride in the breathtaking Cappadocia region!

Cappadocia is famous for its natural beauty including unique and distinctive tall rock formations, known colloquially as “fairy chimneys.” The region is also well-known for its cultural and historical significance dating back to the Bronze Age. Just from the few minutes of video we have here, it’s easy to see that Cappadocia is like nowhere else on earth.

Have you ever ridden in Turkey? Have an experience to share? Let us know in the comments!

World Equestrian Brands Helmet Cam: Bridleless Ride

If you’re going to gallop around the woods bareback and bridleless in the snow, a Gypsy Vanner seems like a good choice of steed.

We’re loving this compilation video by The Nightingales farm of a bareback/bridleless riding adventure in the snow woods. Doesn’t everyone secretly dream about a carefree ride with your best equine buddy with no need for tack other than a neck strap?

Keep an eye out halfway through when “Peter” the horse gets harnessed up to pull a sled … also at top speed through the woods.

World Equestrian Brands Helmet Cam: NRHA Futurity

Ever done a run-in at Oklahoma City to the whoops and whistles of the crowd? Me neither, but thanks to this video from Inside Reining, I can vicariously pretend.

The NRHA Futurity just wrapped up in Oklahoma City, showcasing the best in the sport of reining. NRHA professional Craig Schmersal kindly allowed NRHA Inside Reining to strap a GoPro to him for his run in the Finals aboard Cashing Black Chex, where he marked a score of 221 to the obvious joy of the watching crowd.

Ah, reiners… those fans know how to cheer. Keep an eye out for more coverage from the NRHA Futurity here on Horse Nation!

Go reining!

World Equestrian Brands Helmet Cam: Finnish Logging

Can you say “most tolerant horses ever”? Check out this pair of draft horses in Finland who couldn’t care less about what’s going on behind them.

Not only are these horses (Bogas the Percheron and Limppu the Swedish Ardennais) completely blasé about the giant log-lifting claw that we can only guess makes a lot of noise, but they’re also masters at navigating some very tight turns, steep slopes and narrow spaces with their load. Check out this rock-solid pair:

My favorite part is at 1:15, when the terrifying log-claw offers the horses a little snack from the load of tree branches, and they take a little nibble like there’s nothing at all amiss. Now, I’ve seen some pretty bomb-proof draft horses, but these guys definitely take the cake.

Go draft horses!
