Standing Ovation by Ovation Riding: Reins to Recovery Seeking New Facility

Each Friday, Horse Nation teams up with Ovation Riding to spotlight an organization doing good work with horses. Today, we’re revisiting Reins to Recovery, who is currently seeking a new facility.

Reins to Recovery, a therapeutic riding barn currently based in Seymour, Indiana is seeking a new facility. Their lease will expire on June 30th. This is a wonderful opportunity for Reins; their program has expanded since moving to their current home in 2012, and they’d like to find a “forever home.” They now serve about 50 clients each week and over 120 clients a year in three different programs: therapeutic riding, equine assisted psychotherapy and equine assisted learning.

Reins has a very strong impact on their riders; one boy who started with Reins in October of 2015 was afraid of the horses and reluctant to try anything new. With time, patience, and a slow introduction to horses, he’s worked up to riding and looks forward to his weekly sessions. Since starting in the program, he has made improvements in speech, communication and socialization.

Reins to Recovery’s immediate goal is to find another facility to lease in either Jackson County or Bartholomew County, Indiana. The eventual goal is to find a permanent home. The facility will need to have 12 acres and be capable of housing at least 11 horses, and able to serve at least 50 clients per week in three different programs. Reins is looking to raise $30,000 for a down payment by June 30th; however if they don’t meet that goal in time, the fundraisers will continue. In order to secure a permanent facility and build any needed additions, Reins will need to raise about $300,000 within a 2-3 year period.

Several fundraisers are in the works; currently they’re auctioning off a week-long cowboy adventure trip to the Colorado Cattle Company & Guest Ranch. They also hold a goat milk soap fundraiser several times a year and an annual silent and live auction in August; auction items are always needed.
