12 Horses We Love in the March BLM Internet Adoption

Is your future best friend somewhere in this group? There’s only a few days left to complete your application and bid on the wild horse of your dreams!

The BLM March Internet Adoption is already underway, and the bids are starting to trickle in. Some of the horses featured below already have bids, and some are still waiting for someone to see their potential. Check out our 12 favorites this month, and let the daydreaming (and maybe even bidding!) begin.

Probably the flashiest horse in the whole adoption, this cute little pinto has a stunning coat and a big trot. I’d definitely roll the dice with this one.

Come for the color, stay for the extensions. Can you imagine how cute that creamy mane would be in button braids, halting at x? Swoon!

• Height: 15 hands
• Herd: Little Owyhee, Nevada

Fancy knees much? This mare is put together really well: nice sloping shoulder, cresty neck, good hindquarters, and at a stout 15 hands, she’s a suitable height for nearly any rider. (Plus she’s got such a pretty head.)

This is one of those “total package” wild horses. Beautiful dun coloring, cute face marking, dramatic dreadlocks, and nice size. Fox Hog HMA is a smaller herd, ranging from about 120-200 horses, and they must be easy keepers because the territory they live in appears to be a whole lot of sage brush.  Can’t go wrong there!

Another Fox Hog mare, this darling has such a beautiful eye and face that the Spanish Barb influence is undeniable.

Here is the lowdown on this flashy mare from her handlers at Mantle Ranch, who have been gentling her for the online adoption: “Missy” is a 2013 eye-catching buckskin mare. Has been ridden Western and English. Missy is a very talented and athletic horse who would excel in any performance discipline (hunter/jumper, endurance, barrel racing). She would be best suited for an experienced/intermediate rider (as she is still young and green) who can continue her training into a desired riding discipline. She is very friendly and easy to work with, loads in a trailer, and has had her feet handled.

I love Silver King horses, because nearly every one I’ve ever seen from that HMA is put together really nicely, with just a hint of “escaped plow horse” that gives them that little extra stout and beefy conformation. This mare is a nice example of that: refined and good bodied, but full in the chest and hindquarter. (And who doesn’t love a dark horse all slicked up and shiny in the summer?)

Don’t be dissuaded by her petite stature; this cutey has all the markings of an elegant and beloved youth horse once she’s been matched with the perfect trainer to get her going. That big floating trot, sweet little face and long neck make her a splendid candidate for adoption. Don’t let this one get away!

Color me molasses! (If you adopt this horse because you saw this article, I’m going to have to insist you make that her show name.) This genetic freak of nature has me drooling – a deep liver chestnut with a flaxen mane and silver tail? It seriously belongs in the Wizard of Oz- or your backyard. (AND SHE HAS NO BIDS.)

A few of the horses at the Ridgecrest facility in California now have YouTube videos, which is a fantastic development. I already liked this mare before I saw her video, and the footage confirms she’s got a very pretty little trot and lots of agility. (Cutting horse, anyone?)

The Stone Cabin horses are another herd with some good draft influence, making for these cute stout little horses that really pick their feet up in front. This lovely gray mare is flashy, but I like that even in the pens, she seems a little more chilled out. I suspect she’d take to training quicker than others.

Dun striping, dapples, and 15.2 hands? This mare is a total catch. According to the BLM, this little HMA of only 20-25 horses originated from historic ranching operations, so she descends from some pretty hard working and sure footed stock. I’d expect to see a lot of bids on this one. (She already has 12!)
