Want to hit the trail with your best girlfriends and drive cattle with the likes of Dr. Eleanor Green, Cathy A. Smith, Barbara Van Cleve and Stacy Westfall? Check out the National Cowgirl Museum’s 5th annual Cowgirl Spring Roundup.

What could be better than a long weekend full of horses, friends and fellowship in one of the most beautiful settings in the West? Saddle up for the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame’s fifth annual Cowgirl Spring Roundup, taking place this year April 28 through May 1 at The Resort at Paws Up of western Montana.

Not only will guests ride horseback and drive cattle, they will also participate in educational workshops, photography clinics, yoga, hiking and shooting clays. Guests also get the opportunity to ride and work alongside four honorees from the Cowgirl Hall of Fame: Dr. Eleanor Green, a pioneer for women in equine veterinary medicine; Emmy Award–winning costume designer and Plains Indian historian Cathy A. Smith; award-winning ranch-life photographer Barbara Van Cleve and Stacy Westfall, a nationally recognized horsemanship competitor and instructor. World-class instructor Cathy Woods will be leading yoga sessions, with a special focus on yoga for equestrians.

About the honorees:

Dr. Eleanor Green, DVM: A pioneer for women in equine veterinary medicine for four decades, Eleanor Green is the first female dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Her many other firsts in the profession include being the first female president of three national veterinary associations.

Cathy A. Smith: Cathy A. Smith is an artist dedicated to preserving the history of 19th century cowboys and cowgirls and the Plains Indians. Her expansive knowledge is expressed through painting, bead and quillwork, motion picture costume design and historical consultation. Her work in the epic Western film starring Kevin Costner, Dances with Wolves, set the standard for authenticity in Western filmmaking.

Barbara Van Cleve: Barbara van Cleve’s photographs realistically portray ranch life in the modern West. Raised on her family’s Montana ranch, she learned ranch life as a participant, with photography as an avocation. Van Cleve became the youngest dean of women in the United States at DePaul University in Chicago and taught English literature and photography at the school. She retired from teaching to pursue photography full-time.

Stacy Westfall: Stacy Westfall received her first pony at age six and has claimed to be “obsessed with horses from the beginning.” Unique to freestyle reining competitions, Westfall often did not use a bridle and in some cases she even competed bareback. In 2003, Westfall won the National Reining Horse Association Freestyle Reining Competition, riding without a bridle. In 2006, Westfall became the first female rider to win the Road to the Horse competition.
