SpectraVET Perf. of the Week: Kelli Cruciotti in Medal Final
Among the most coveted prizes for junior riders, the 2015 Pessoa/US Hunter Seat Medal Final was awarded to Kelli Cruciotti after two beautiful performances.
The Pessoa/US Hunter Seat Medal Final, as defined by the United States Equestrian Federation website:
The Pessoa/US Hunter Seat Medal Final event is comprised of multiple rounds and judged on equitation over a course set at 3’6”. All riders compete in the first round of the US Hunter Seat Medal Final. Judges select the top riders from round one to move on to compete in round two. The judges then have the option to select a smaller group of riders for further testing to determine the champion.
What sounds like a pretty cut-and-dry competition was anything but, however, as the top junior riders in the country faced off on a tricky and challenging course at the 2015 Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg. The equitation course twisted and turned through an arena full of natural jumps, including a legitimate fence as well as a formidable hedge. One rider in particular had a near-textbook performance in both the preliminary and the final rounds: Kelli Cruciotti and Monterrey.
Here’s the preliminary round performance:
And if that looked challenging, yet flawlessly executed, wait until you check out the final round test:
Counter-canter? No problem. Simple changes? Easy as pie. Hand-gallop a fence? Let me show you how that’s done. Kelli Cruciotti earned every inch of her win.
Go riding!
