SpectraVET Performance of the Week: Congress Freestyle
Kathy Burma took home the championship from the 2015 Congress Non-Pro Freestyle Reining with a score of 225, aboard her five-year-old mare Tejons Shine. Check out their performance to Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart.”
The Congress freestyle reining classes are one of the ticketed events at the largest single-breed horse show in the country: the crowd packs the stands to watch the creative musical rides rock the arena. The audience actually helps decide the placings as well: according to the rules of freestyle reining, audience appreciation counts towards the final score.
And the people spoke on Saturday, October 10, 2015 for the Non-Pro Freestyle Reining: Kathy Burma, aboard her own five-year-old mare Tejons Shine, rocked out to Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart” in a sassy performance that raised cheers all through the arena. Her hands-free spins as she pretended to apply makeup earned big whistles and hollers, and her fast circles in time with the rocking chorus were a big hit too.
You go, girl. The Open freestyle was won by NRHA professional and classic crowd-pleaser Pete Kyle.
Go riding!
