Hey! It’s the weekend
To quote Rihanna, “Cheers to the freakin’ weekend,” y’all! Between Pimlico in Maryland and horse show season in full swing across the country, it’s a good day to living in Horse Nation.
Yesterday, I had one of those moments on my horse like, “Ah… it doesn’t get much better than this.” The sun was shining, there was a lukewarm breeze blowing, and my horse jumping the tar out of whatever I put in front of him. I had to pull up for a few seconds and just take a deep breath, inhale it all in. This is what it’s all about, I thought. Not blue ribbons. Not what my trainer or some big-name rider thinks it’s all about. This.
The next time you find yourself in the middle of one of those moments–and it might just be a quiet moment with your horse at the end of the day or watching him grazing peacefully in his paddock–I urge you to stop what you’re doing and give thanks. Feel gratitude for how fortunate you are to be in this particular place at this particular time. Soak for a moment in the here and now.
Life with horses is a gift. Seize it.
Go riding.
