Dubarry Tuesday Video: Mama Knows Best (When Jumping)

Hey, if you’re going to teach your foal how to do something, you might as well take the time to do it right — like this mare.

I have to admit that I find it totally hilarious when foals (or puppies or kittens or the other various baby animals I’ve dealt with over the years) are totally confounded by what appears to be the simplest things. Case in point: this little guy, who is completely unglued because he’s forced to navigate a tiny bank in his pasture.

Fortunately, Mom comes back to his rescue — and rather than give him a lead up the bank, she makes sure that he understands that jumping is about more than just the leap and circles him off for a good, straight approach.

Sure, any mother could just show him how to jump … but this mare is clearly in the “teach a man to fish” school of thought. We approve.
