Mother convinces co-workers her daughter has cancer, spends money raised on riding lessons

A British ex-policewoman raised hundreds of pounds by tricking colleagues into believing her daughter was suffering from leukemia. In reality, she was using the money on lessons for her daughters, aged 12 and 15, who are successful show-jumpers.

Rachel Hewitt, 39, pleaded guilty in court yesterday to a charge of misconduct in public office and a separate charge of fraud. She will be sentenced on June 6.
