4 Recipes Your Horse Will Love For Thanksgiving
Guaranteed to put a smile on your horse’s lips.
Special Note: These treats contain sugar. Be wary if your horse has been diagnosed with metabolic/laminitis issues.
Thanksgiving Mash
Ingredients:
Hot Water
1/4 to 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
2 Shredded carrots
1 Chopped Apple
2 cups of Unsweetened Apple Juice
Shredded Beet Pulp, Bran, or Alfalfa Cubes depending on your horse’s preference.
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients together in a large bucket. Pour hot water on top. Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes or until the water is absorbed and is cool enough to eat. Tip: I usually pour the apple juice over the mash right before I serve.
Peppermint Cookies
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup oats
2 tbsp. honey
1 cup water
1/2 apple, finely chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
1 1/2 tbsp. flour
1 tbsp. brown sugar
5 crushed peppermints
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Mix oats, water, and honey in a bowl.
Microwave for two minutes.
Add chopped apple and carrots, brown sugar, crushed peppermints, and flour to the mixture.
Microwave for two minutes again.
Put mixture in mini muffin pan, and bake for about 15 minutes.
No-Bake Version
Ingredients:
1 cup rolled oats
¼ cup water
1 to 2 tbsp. molasses
5 peppermints
Instructions:
Mix the oats and water until the oats are damp.
Add molasses by the tablespoon until the mixture is sticky.
Roll into balls and press peppermint in the middle of each cookie.
Put in refrigerator (uncovered) to harden.

Carrot Oatmeal Cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup uncooked oats
1 cup flour
1 cup shredded carrots
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
¼ cup molasses
Instructions:
Mix ingredients in bowl.
Make little balls and place on a non-stick cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
