Unconventional Tale: Rescue Turns Racehorse
Tomorrow, some 40-odd partners of 5R Racehorse Stables will be trackside at Aqueduct to witness their filly, Notinrwildestdremz, run her first race. Three years ago, Notinrwildestdremz was one of 177 horses rescued in a raid on owner-breeder Ernie Paragallo’s farm.
The story gets better: The filly was adopted by a Brooklyn couple who used social media to put together an over-120-member owner-partnership. Some folks contributed just $25 for a share in Notinrwildestdremz.
“I want to take the industry out of it and make people understand that we have a stewardship with the horses and that’s something we should take very seriously,” owner Angelika Kerr told the New York Times.
Whether Notinrwildestdremz runs or plods tomorrow, it’s clear she’s already overcome the odds.
And with her profile in the New York Times, her cheering section just got THAT MUCH bigger.
