Rodeo: Doing What Every Other Discipline Should Have Done a Long Time Ago

How is it possible that no other discipline has declared AN OFFICIAL WINE?

The Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, or PRCA, is the official governing body of professional rodeo in the United States, overseeing such banner events as the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo held each December in Las Vegas as well as the RAM National Circuit Finals, among others. It’s also become the first governing body of a horse sport to do what we’ve all only ever dreamed of–declared an official wine.

Is this real life?

Meet Purple Cowboy Wines, the official wine of the PRCA. It’s even got an official cowboy, Trevor Knowles, who recently reached the top of world standings in steer wrestling. The Purple Cowboy line includes two wines:

Trail Boss, a Cabernet Sauvignon with “aromas of ripe plum, cherry and cassis […] accented with cola and vanilla”

Tenacious Red, a Cab/Syrah blend with “crushed berries with a dusting of cocoa powder.”

I can dig it. Both of these bottles on sale will run you in the neighborhood of $13-$15–for the average horse owner, not a bad bargain. Plus, there’s the added benefit that for every bottle of Purple Cowboy purchased, a donation is made to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink breast cancer campaign.
