Edgar Prado’s High Speed Rein Save

How’s this for sportsmanship? Mid-race, Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado notices the rider on his outside’s in trouble and lends a helping hand (or whip).

Prado, originally from Peru, was only the fourth jockey in history to win 500 races in one year (536 wins in 1997) and the 19th to win 5000 career races, which he achieved in 2004.

As many of us know, dropping your reins can prove troublesome on any given ride–let alone on the back of a racehorse galloping close to 40 mph.

Prado’s keen eye and composure helped avoid what could’ve been a disaster (not to mention a loss in purse earnings). And he still pulled away from the pack in the turn.
