Back on Track ‘Horse Therapy’: Megan & Pete
When her father died, Megan Shock turned to her horse/best friend, Just Plain Pete, for comfort.
From Megan:
Just Plain Pete is the name of my National Show Horse. His name is a complete and total contradiction of how he performs when he shows, the things he has taught me, and his personality. My horse is far from being anything close to “plain.” Pete has been my horse for six years now and we’ve been inseparable since. I have cried numerous times into his mane while he nuzzled on my back with his lip. This last year, he has helped me through the absolute hardest event I’ve had to face: The death of my Dad. My Dad struggled through a year of lung cancer and passed on Feb. 3, 2013 and my world fell apart. I couldn’t handle it at all being a total Daddy’s girl… especially with the new stress as a freshman in college. Pete was there to cuddle me as I would cry and riding him was the most therapeutic thing to help me through this entire last year. He has been my best friend: never judging me, keeping me safe, and keeping me sane. I love my horse to death and I don’t know what I’d do without him in my life to calm the storms and ease the pain of all the hard things and even the small things that life throws at me.
Go Back on Track, and Go Riding!
