How to Be a Great Sportsman, Jockey-Style

Jockeys are known for their great horsemanship and quick thinking–after all, they travel around a racetrack riding 1,200 lbs. of thoroughbred at 40 miles per hour!

But at least one jockey should be known for his great sportsmanship as well as his horsemanship: Edgar Prado. Check out this video in which he saves the day by handing the lost reins of another rider back to him after he lost them.

Prado, originally from Peru, was only the fourth jockey in history to win 500 races in one year (536 wins in 1997) and the 19th to win 5,000 career races, which he achieved in 2004.

Prado’s keen eye and composure helped avoid what could’ve been a disaster (not to mention a loss in purse earnings). And he still pulled away from the pack in the turn.
