SpectraVET Performance of the Week: Charlotte Dujardin & Valegro
Great Britain’s double Olympic gold medal winning duo broke their own world record to win the FEI World Cup Grand Prix in Lyon over the weekend.

Charlotte and Valegro already held all three world records in Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and Freestyle. They scored 87.129% in the World Cup Grand Prix, besting the 85.942% record they set at the 2013 European Championships.
““I wasn’t thinking about the score when I was in the arena, I just did my test and felt happy about it. Carl (Hester, her coach) was very happy which is always good, so when I heard it was a world record it was fantastic!” Charlotte explained in a press release.
The FEI has not released a full video of the performance, but here are some highlights:
Their record-breaking performance was followed on Sunday by a new freestyle, set to music from How to Train Your Dragon, that scored a 92.179%. It was the highest mark of the day, but not quite enough to break their record — although it seems quite probable that that will happen in the near future as their familiarity with the music develops.
“I had only ridden the test twice at home so I wasn’t as confident as I would be with my other music but I definitely think this is better than my old music. We were just messing around at home when I came up with the idea of the piaffe/pirouette at the end which is technically difficult but, being the super-star he is, Valegro can do it!” said Charlotte in a press-release.
