Racehorse Trainer Gets Results Up With Viagra

Well, that’s one way to enhance performance…

New Mexico trainer John Stinebaugh was suspended after four horses in his stable tested positive for an ingredient of Viagra at Ruidoso Downs in July.

Sildenafil, a main ingredient in the erectile dysfunction drug, increases cardiac output, giving increased endurance and faster race times for the horses.

Rumor has it he got the idea from this commercial. (And by “rumor” I mean I made that up.)

Stinebaugh was given four suspensions—one for each of the horses given the Viagra ingredient—by the Racing Commission. That’s 16 years he’ll be getting off (work) at the track. He was also fined $40,000 and forced to return $8,000 in winnings.

The trainer, meanwhile, maintains his innocence. He told American Quarter Horse News that the positive tests were the result of an anti-bleeding compound the track veterinarians gave to his horses. It’s the excuse all men use when caught taking Viagra behind their partner’s back.

Stinebaugh can appeal the ruling.

Racing Commission executive Vince Mares, who seems oddly well-monikored  for his job, told the The Inquisitr he wanted the suspension to serve an example to others who would think of injecting horses with performance-enhancing drugs.

“It is just a more proactive approach,” said Mares.

A lot like Viagra, actually.
