Your Turn: My dream truck & trailer

If you had an unlimited budget and could have any truck and trailer you wanted, what would it be? Lila Gendal chews on this delicious question.

Some girls dream about designer dresses, beautiful shoes and jewelry. Then there’s us. I have always wanted my very own truck and trailer. Of course I completely disregard the fact that the dream truck and trailer I want are astronomically expensive and I would actually have to sell all my horses in order to the make payments. However, I would LOVE to go truck and trailer shopping someday. Someday.

What’s your ideal truck and trailer? Do you prefer slants or straight loads? Goosenecks or bumper pulls? Honestly, the most important thing to me is that the truck and trailer are reliable, and more importantly safe. I want to be able to safely transport from horses from point A to point B without worrying about any serious issues. Unfortunately, we can never be absolutely certain that nothing will go wrong, but we want to make sure we cross our T’s and dot our I’s before heading out on the road.

I am not exactly sure which truck I would get if someone handed me a blank check, but I might lean towards a GMC, just because I have spent some time in those trucks and they seem to be nice and solid. Honestly, I am far from a truck expert… that’s why I have a boyfriend. He can tell me right away if a certain truck will suffice or not!

However, my dream trailer for the time being is very clear to me. The perfect trailer for me right now would be a two horse, straight load gooseneck–so I can sleep in the trailer when traveling to shows and it’s great having that extra room. I would want a head partition in the front for my annoying and fairly recently gelded gelding, who at times forgets he is missing all of his belongings. All the doors need to have easy closures. I have dealt with a lot of trailers and having to struggle just to close a door is not fun. The tack room would be separated from the trailer and there would preferably be four saddle racks and at least six bridle hooks. Of course, there would be lights in both the trailer and the gooseneck. I would like four small hooks in front of each horses head so I can hang hay bags. Hay nets are fine, but why use a net when you can throw hay right into an open bag? If I am going to be super picky, I would like the trailer to be silver with yellow lines as details because I am slightly obsessed with the color yellow.

Someday I will own my very own truck and trailer. Until that day I will continue being appreciative of what I do have and what I have been able to use. But I will continue dreaming about my future truck and trailer. Trucks and trailers are obviously huge expenses… but so are horses, right?

My name is Lila Gendal and I am 27 years old. I am from Vermont and have been riding horses since I was 6 years old. I have been eventing since I was 10. I have been riding and training with Denny Emerson for the last 7 years. My goal is to compete at the upper levels someday. I currently have a 2005 Holsteiner mare, “Valonia” (Contester X Parlona), who is currently going training level, and I am riding one of Denny Emerson’s horses, a 2005 Selle Luxemburg gelding, “Beaulieu’s Cool Skybreaker” (Beaulieu’s Coolman X Une Beaute by Heartbreaker) who will be moving up to training soon! When I am not on a horse or in the barn I am likely working in my office on what I like to call Equine Media… or social media for equestrians and equestrian websites.
