Friday Flicks: Top 10 hunks on horseback

This week movie critic Amanda Ronan weighs in on Hollywood’s hottest studs… and the horses they rode in on.

Top: The latest hunks vying for a coveted spot on Amanda’s list might be Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger. Depp even risked his gorgeous abs for the making of the film.

I’ve always said, “The only thing more appealing in a movie than a good looking man, is a good looking man on a horse.”  I think we’d all agree to that.  So with very little ado…here are my favorite Hunks on Horses.

Honorable Mentions:  Russell Crowe in Gladiator, Will Smith in Wild Wild West, and Magic Mike, I mean, um, Channing Tatum in Eagle of the Ninth.

10. George Strait in Pure Country. “I cross my heart and promise to… give all that I’ve got to give to make all your dreams come true…”

9. Chris Hemsworth in Snow White and the Huntsman. During an interview with Conan O’Brien, Hemsworth detailed his very own “Oh $h!t” moment when he took a face dive to the sand during the final battle scene. We’ve all been there, Mr. Hemsworth. We’ve ALL been there.

8. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in Cowboys and Aliens. Indiana Jones and James Bond team up on horseback. Need I say more?

7. The men of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. With Karl Urban, Viggo Mortensen, and Orlando Bloom in the mix, it’s hard not to enjoy the view Peter Jackson dreamed up in the epic fantasy adventure.

6. Mel Gibson as William Wallace in Braveheart. I think we all swooned a little bit when Wallace came to pick up Murrel in that “fine Scottish weather.”

5. Hugh Jackman in Australia. Ladies, there is a shirtless scene and it involves an ice cold bucket of water. Bow-chicka-wow-wow.

4. This man was a hot topic on Horse Nation and Horses in the Morning radio show not too long ago. The infamous Tom Burlinson of The Man from Snowy River. “Hello darlin’…”

3. The wholesome hotties of Heartland. I imagine this group would always be first to open your door, offer a helping hand around the farm, and never leave the toilet seat up. True gentlemen who could convince any girl to brave the cold, Canadian winters.

2. Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall. I think we all remember the first time we saw Tristan, the original irresistible bad boy.

and finally… drum roll please…

1. Heath Ledger in A Knight’s Tale. It was difficult to decide which character to pick for Mr. Ledger. Having learned to ride when he was young, movie directors take full advantage of his skills in The Patriot, Four Feathers, Casanova, Brokeback Mountain, The Brothers Grimm, and Ned Kelly. However, it was his portrayal of all-around good looking, big hearted Sir William Thatcher in A Knight’s Tale that won me over.

About the Author

Amanda’s experience with horses is just as eclectic as her taste in movies.  She has dabbled in almost every discipline from eventing to team penning to fox hunting.  She started riding when she was 8 with her local 4-H club in Western performance events.  She moved on to the AQHA circuit with her Quarter Horse, “Aggie,” when she was 12 and he was a green 2 year old.  Through college she held a working student position at Seahorse Sporthorses, owned by Terri Adams, where she was introduced to the wonderful world of show jumping and eventing.  Along with Aggie, who just turned 20 years old, she has two OTTBs in her herd named “Gump” and “Lizard.”  Amanda continues her jumping training with Ms. Adams and works on that necessary evil also known as dressage with Mimi Burch of Blue Moon Farm.
