The Secret Life of McKenna: The hard stuff
It’s always tough to sell a horse you care deeply about–but perhaps especially so when it’s your very first one. From junior blogger McKenna Oxenden.
From McKenna:
2013 has been a pretty rocky year so far. I’ve had a lot of set backs and road blocks and just when I thought I could see the light at the end of the tunnel—it went black.
After some very serious thought and multiple life discussions with Courtney, I am very, very sad to say I have decided to put Gigi back on the market.
This is not a decision that was taken lightly at all but it unfortunately is in my and Gigi’s best interest.
I am looking at six months of being out of commission due to my shoulder surgery at the beginning of August. That is six months without riding which means six months of expenses when I cannot ride. Financially, my family just cannot afford to put up board AND professional training and competition rates (especially when we already had to do that a little this year).
It’s a really, really–did I mention really?–sucky situation. Gigi is an amazing horse and I really wish I could keep her but it is just one of those decisions that had to be made.
Gigi has taught me so much and is an absolute blast to ride. She has taught me to learn how to actually enjoy show jumping and that jumping doesn’t have to be that scary!!! Every single ride I swear this horse gets better and better. She is going to make someone very, very happy. She is quite the diva and princess with the pocket pony personality, just a wicked cool horse.
G would be perfect for a teen looking for their first horse or for something to teach them the ropes of eventing. She is totally capable of going at least training level and would madly excel in the jumper ring. A great home is a must for me because only my princess deserves the best. Life has a pretty fun way about it. But you sometimes just got to remember that everything happens for a reason….
