In the News: Champion British trainer Henry Cecil dies at 70
The racing world lost a legend today with the passing of Sir Henry Cecil, the 10-time champion trainer whose charges included the unbeaten superstar Frankel.
Cecil died Tuesday following a long battle with cancer. He was 70.
Cecil’s career spanned four-decades and encompassed thousands of racehorses. As of June 2012, he had trained 25 Classic winners and was the Master Trainer at Royal Ascot, where he saddled more than 70 winners. He was knighted for services to horse racing in 2011.

He was one of the finest trainers of racehorses that the sport has ever witnessed,” Professional Jockeys’ Association joint president Steve Drowne said.
“His influence over generations of jockeys is renowned and those who rode for him benefited hugely from his knowledge and experience. He will be much missed by all of us.”
