News: Debate on potential relocation of ‘demon horse’ upcoming
The fate of a controversial equine sculpture at Denver Int. Airport will soon be on the table, according to Fox 31 Denver.

Says the story, “On Feb. 11, a debate on whether to move the 32-foot blue horse with piercing red eyes or let it continue to occupy the perch it has held for almost five years can officially be held by those with the power–both literally and legislatively–to move the 9,000 pound creation.”
Opinions about the horse have been divided since it was first mounted in front of the airport in 2008.
I wish I’d written the title of this NBC piece about the sculpture, “And Behold a Big Blue Horse: Many in Denver just say neigh.”
Opponents claim the “Blue Mustang” is intimidating and unrepresentative of Denver at best; others claim that the sculpture is cursed.
The latter speculation is due in part to the fact that its creator, artist Luis Jiménez, was killed in 2006 when a section of the 9,000-lb. fiberglass sculpture fell on him during construction. Jiménez severed an artery in his leg and bled to death.
The horse has inspired anti-”Blue Mustang” websites, a Facebook page and a poetry slam featuring 250 horse-themed haikus.
As one haiku writer put it:
Anxiously I fly
apocalyptic hell beast
fails to soothe my nerves.
Another wrote:
Big blue horse beckons
Fiery, red eyes glowering
Good bye one horse town.
According to the New York Times, the horse has also reignited suspicions among conspiracy theorists that there are secret bunkers or caverns beneath the airport terminals, possibly inhabited by aliens.
Hmmmm.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see whether Denver decides to send the horse packing or keep it around. What’s your opinion, Horse Nation?
