News: ‘Horse therapy for Korean internet addicts’
That’s the headline of a bizarre Reuters story published today that promotes riding as a cure for the “internet addiction” pandemic that is plaguing Korean youth.
According to the story, “official statistics suggest 680,000 children in the country aged between 10 and 19 are addicted to surfing the net.”
The 14-year-old interviewed for the story says she used to surf the internet for seven hours a day before she began riding horses. (She doesn’t mention it in the video, but the Reuters story clarifies that she was surfing for pornography.)
“I care about horses and think about how I could ride them better, which has made me lose interest in computers and the internet,” she explains.
