Fantasy Farm Friday: Historic Sagamore Farm Is up for Grabs
… if you have $22 million.
If you want to be a part of Thoroughbred racing history — and have the bankroll to do it — you can own the property that was home to Hall of Famers Native Dancer and Discovery.
Sagamore Farm housed the legendary operation of Alfred Vanderbilt, Jr., and the 400-acre Reisterstown, MD property officially is listed for sale by Under Armour founder Kevin Plank.
Plank bought the property in 2007 for a reported $4.99 million, but he told the Wall Street Journal he has spent more than $22 million on the land and renovations — including a two-level clocker’s stand, complete with a conference room, alongside the three-quarter-mile Tapeta training track. He also put significant investment into renovating and adding barns and replacing the fences.
Plank’s original plan was to make Sagamore Farm his home-base for Thoroughbred racing and breeding operations. He managed to get as far as winning the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf with Sharing and, at the farm’s most recent height, Sagamore was home to around 100 horses. However, Plank ended his Thoroughbred operation in 2020 and only kept his retired racehorses on the property. Since then, the property was used for growing crops for Plank’s Sagamore Spirit whiskey.
But all that can change if the right equestrian steps in.
The Sagamore property features an approximately 16,000-square-foot main house, a five-bedroom general manager’s house, and a building housing eight apartments (so all of you equestrian friends can join you — and maybe share the expenses…).
Plus, there’s a horse racing facility designed for excellence and versatility, with room to expand into pretty much any discipline you could want.
