Paris Olympic Happy Hour: The Prancing Party Is Over for Team USA
Womp-womp, a dressage medal wasn’t meant to be. But at least we still have Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg.
Team USA will not advance a team or individual rider out of the qualifying Grand Prix, a real bummer after winning silver in Tokyo. Steffen Peters, the final American rider, had a tough, tense test today aboard Suppenkasper AKA “Mopsie” AKA Snoop Dogg’s favorite crip-walking “Rave Horse,” posting a mid score of 66.49%.
The way the qualifiers work is that there are six groups of 10 horses — three groups went yesterday (you can read Candace’s report here) and three today. The top two combinations from each group and the six combinations with the next best scores qualify to the Individual Final (Grand Prix Freestyle). The best 10 teams qualify to the Team Final (Grand Prix Special).
Team USA got knocked out yesterday with the elimination of Marcus Orlob and Jane, and neither Steffan nor our third combination, Adrienne Lyle and Helix, placed high enough to advance. The teams we WILL see back:
- Germany
- Denmark
- Great Britain
- Netherlands
- Sweden
- Belgium
- France
- Austria
- Finland
- Australia
Check out the full scores here. The highest scoring test came from Team Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl with TSF Dalera BB, who crushed with an 82.065%. Not that it matters, but if your barn has an Olympic betting pool or something going (is this a thing? it SHOULD be a thing) then there’s your hot tip.

Well, kids, no matter how the cookie crumbles, the one thing I’m sure we can all agree upon is the true gold of these Games belongs to dressage commentary dream team Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg. I know not when this is happening — the Freestyle, perhaps? — but I am HERE FOR IT WITH POPCORN Y’ALL.
