News: Rita Crundwell farm auction nets $4.7 million
Hundreds of quarter horses along with tack, trailers and farm equipment belonging to the former Dixon, Ill. comptroller were sold over the course of a two-day auction that concluded yesterday.
The highest dollar horse, a three-time world champion, sold for $775,000.
Crundwell is accused to having misappropriating more than $53 million dollars from the town of Dixon to support her horse breeding operation.
She has pleaded not guilty to a federal charge and also faces state charges. If Crundwell is found guilty the town and the U.S. Marshall’s Service will receive all proceeds from the auction.
