How did you start riding?
I started riding welsh ponies on my grandma’s farm with my brother and cousins at a very young age. I instantly loved it and have been riding ever since.
What is your favorite thing about riding/or your horse?
I love how connected me and my horses can be. The best is when you feel one with your horse and are able to work together seamlessly.
What would you like to do when you are older?
I’m still trying to figure out what I want to pursue as a career. Definitely something that helps people or animals and makes me happy.
Tell us your favorite quote and why:
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” – Helen Keller. I love this quote because it relates to so many aspects of life, including horses. Working together to achieve goals is what it’s all about.
What do you think the most important aspects of horsemanship are?
Paying attention and understanding your horse is very important. For me riding is all about communicating with your horse about what you want to do and achieve, which is vital to accomplish your goals.
More Fun Facts
- How many pets do you have (and what kind)?
I live on a farm so we have many animals. We have a Boston Terrier, a barn cat, horses, chickens, cows, pigs and more! - What is your favorite animal (apart from a horse)?
Dog - What is your favorite color?
Blue - What is your favorite food?
Sandwiches - What is something unique about you?
I have a twin brother! Although he doesn’t ride anymore, we used to take lessons on matching white ponies. - What is one word that your friends would describe you as?
Energetic
What is one thing you would like to tell people about Thoroughbreds or the Thoroughbred Incentive Program?
I really want to spread the knowledge about what a kind-hearted hard-working breed Thoroughbreds are. I have ridden them all my life and could not have asked for a better breed to learn about riding skills and horsemanship. They really are unique horses, and anyone would be lucky to have one.
What are your goals for your horse in 2020?
After I graduate high school, I plan to take a gap year and go to Calgary to ride. I want to expand my knowledge about Thoroughbreds and I think the Thoroughbred Incentive Program is the perfect way to do that.
Anything else you would like to share?
As I have previously mentioned, I grew up on a farm with my mom, dad, twin brother and little sister. Next to my five acres is my uncle’s farm, and on the other side of my property is my grandama’s farm. I’ve grown up surrounded by family, with our three properties connected to each other. As a kid my cousins and I would ride in the fields and play in the creek. We also live right next to the Vernon District Riding club so it’s very handy to ride across the field and use their facility. Since I was a child, I have been enveloped in farm life and horses. I truly love and am commited to them and I am extremely excited to begin my journey as a T.I.P. Youth Ambassador.
