The magic of being a barn rat with none of the drama: check out this week’s helmet cam video!

Despite the fact that I am a grown woman, I frequently find myself watching The Saddle Club, or more recently, Free Rein on Netflix. While I’ll be the first to admit that these are far from prestige television, something in me finds them extremely comforting. Perhaps it’s the clunky dialogue mixed with the fun accents, or maybe it’s the utterly predictable plot lines, or the standard cast of obligatory characters, but I suspect it’s something else.

What keeps me coming back to those shows is a nostalgia for the time in my life when I’d gather with friends in the tackroom to gossip after a riding lesson, when my biggest problem was that I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to pick up Flame’s left lead, and when I had nothing else to do, aside from school, than to be a barn rat.
