One Last Ride With Foiled Again
Take a spin with the richest harness horse in history.
While harness racing doesn’t enjoy the same kind of high-profile life of flat racing, it’s full of the kind of stories that are the stuff of legend. And one of the sport’s great living legend has finally retired at the mandatory retirement age of 15: Foiled Again, with earnings over $7 million in 331 starts. Yep, you read that right.
That kind of career made Foiled Again the richest Standardbred ever, a position he’s likely to hold for quite a long time, if not forever. He racked up 109 wins in those years of racing, and capped his incredible life of racing with a “Farewell Tour” in which he traveled to 18 tracks all across North America to let more fans experience the joy of watching him race.
Here’s a driver’s-eye view of one of Foiled Again’s last training sessions:
Kind of a bittersweet moment for me this morning..10 Year’s and 6 months ago almost too the day I trained Foiled Again for the first time after he arrived at Gaitway for the Burke stable… and now I trained him for the last time at Gaitway…It’s been such an honor and pleasure to have been involved with such an Amazing animal !!!!!!!

The gelding will be turned out now to enjoy a quiet retirement — his owners state that he’s always enjoyed some turnout time. Foiled Again will be used as a turnout buddy for newer, more skittish horses that need to learn to relax on pasture.
