Thursday Video: Equine Innovation

If necessity is the mother of invention, then it was clearly necessary that this horse get his belly itched.

There are two ways to approach this video: one is feigned outrage that this horse has clearly broken some probably-critical piece of equipment with a dangerously-pointed end with which he could do some real damage to himself and others. The other is marvel and appreciation for this horse’s ability to find just the right tool for the job of scratching his own itch.

While I can’t tell exactly what the object is that this horse is holding — a broken feed pan? A piece of an automatic waterer? — I can safely say that it’s the perfect tool for the task at hand. If you need further convincing, look at this horse’s happy lip.

Now that’s a clever and satisfied horse.
