Twist of Fate reports on Facebook that while the braces were intended to help straighten and correct Pumpkin’s legs, it’s now appearing that she may have been born without ligaments in her lower legs that allow them to function. Twist of Fate is now fundraising for surgery to fit Pumpkin with metal plates to straighten the limb, first on one leg to gauge success and ultimately for all four legs.
Other residents at Twist of Fate include retired draft horses and draft mules as well as light horses rescued from kill buyers — plus cows, sheep and pigs.
Twist of Fate has been in operation since 2012 as a private venture, but was recently granted 501(c)3 status as a registered non-profit.
