‘Oh Crap’ Monday
The heart-stopping fall is bad enough, but a hung-up jockey certainly makes the situation worse. Fortunately, a great horse and a quick-thinking jockey turn this story around.
Monday is already the crappiest day of the week, so it only makes sense that we make things official. This decidedly crappy moment took place just after Christmas at Wetherby in a hurdle race: the 6 horse Georgian Firebird hangs up on the fence and falls on the landing, rolling completely over. Jacarno manages to clear the rolling Georgian Firebird but unseats jockey Ross Turner in the process.
Meanwhile, Georgian Firebird manages to get to her feet — with jockey Danny Cook hung up by his left foot, caught in the stirrup. He can get one hand to the ground to help hold himself up, but that’s all.
Fortunately for Danny Cook, his mount stands stock-still: you could theorize that his fall perhaps cleaned her clock a bit, but you could also argue that Georgian Firebird might understand the situation. Equally fortunate for Danny Cook, Ross Turner gets to his feet and rushes to his aid, long before ground crew can reach the stricken pair.
Nasty incident in the 3.20 at Wetherby
Top work from Ross Turner, who rushes to Danny Cook's aid with the jockey left with one foot stuck in the irons after their fall at Wetherby. Results ▶️ http://bit.ly/2w8fYfO

Fortunately, according to sources, both Cook and Georgian Firebird escaped injury in this incident. Three cheers for great horses and great fellow jockeys.
