This week’s honoree: Polo Players Support Group.

The Polo Players Support Group was formed in 2002, following the rallying of the polo community in 2000 to form a benefit match in support of 8-goal Polo Hall of Famer Rob Walton after a polo accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. Recognizing the need for funding to help polo players and grooms in times of financial crisis as a result of injury or illness, the Polo Players Support Group was formed by Dave Offen, Tony Coppola and Tim Gannon.

Since the group’s inception, over $2.2 million has been raised and given to 70 members of the polo community in times of need. The marquee fundraising event for the PPSG is the Lucchese 40-Goal Polo Challenge, which takes place next on February 17, 2018. Combined with silent and live auctions, the event has raised upwards of $300,000 in recent years.

Testimonials speak to the PPSG’s assistance with medical bills, injury rehab and direct expenses. The structure of the PPSG allows funding to be awarded quickly and easily, helping individuals in the polo community when they need it the most.
