Tuesday Video: Course Walk

After all, it’s important to start our next generation young in all the best practices of being an equestrian.

As an aside, I spent the weekend at the Devon Horse Show of Pennsylvania, watching the best and brightest junior equitation stars of the country perform — but before they rode, every rider accompanied by their coach walked the course, counting their strides, inspecting related distances, memorizing physically every place to turn, add leg or slow down. Course walk is a critical part of competing and crucial to forming a good plan.

Of course, with fence heights hovering around 3’6″, I didn’t see any competitors going for the “full experience” quite like this wee tot, who is clearly giving this course walk everything he’s got.

Hey, start ’em young. That course walk is serious business.
