World Equestrian Brands Drone Cam: Salt River Wild Horses

The Salt River Wild Horses of Tonto National Forest in Arizona are a small and iconic herd of free-roaming equines, and thanks to today’s drone cam video, you can see them like never before!

The Salt River of Tonto National Forest in Arizona is home to a small and unique herd of wild free-roaming equines called the Salt River Wild Horses. They’re believed by many to be descended from original Spanish stock brought into the area by missionaries and settlers, though no scientific study has been performed to prove or disprove this hypothesis.

Regardless of where they came from, the Salt River Wild Horses have become a tourist attraction in and of themselves, bringing visitors to the National Forest hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the small bands. The Salt River Wild Horse Management Group has formed, helping to preserve the horses from removal and harassment as well as volunteering to clean the riverbed from litter.

The Salt River Wild Horses spend a lot of time in the river itself, feeding on marine grass and enjoying the cool current. This video, including regular video and photography as well as some stunning drone views, gives us a great look at the horses enjoying the river.

The Salt River Wild Horses have been at risk of removal by the Forest Service as well as numerous and horrifying incidents of being shot or harassed. Horses always run the risk of being struck by cars within the National Forest as well as the highways in the area. Despite these challenges, the Salt River Wild Horses thrive, providing an iconic experience to visitors as a symbol of tenacity and freedom.
