Ride along with the New Castle County, Delaware Mounted Patrol for a horseback soccer game — aboard Clydesdales!

To mark the 35th anniversary of New Castle County, Delaware furnishing a mounted patrol, the volunteer group Friends of the Mounted Patrol held a celebratory festival on October 8. The celebration culminated in a little friendly game of soccer between members of the unit … and of course, the horses. Watch from the rider’s-eye view this exciting match-up of the white saddle pads versus the black saddle pads as the unit pits two teams of Clydesdales for a soccer match!

The New Castle County Mounted Patrol Unit has been serving the community for 35 years. According to the unit’s webpage, “the unit patrols communities and county parks, targeting those communities in need of special patrols.” The unit also provides added security for large events and works as community outreach. New Castle County Mounted Patrol Unit includes five full-time officers, seven auxiliary riders and eight Clydesdales — the horses are chosen specifically for their excellent temperament, as well as, we’re sure, their recognizable appearance and bulk!
