Standing Ovation by Ovation Riding
This week’s honoree: the annual Pink Poker Prance of Fair Hill!
One of the most popular autumn fundraisers on the East Coast is gearing up for its seventh year! Oxford Feed & Lumber’s annual Pink Poker Prance to benefit local fight against breast cancer will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Fair Hill Nature Center in Elkton, Maryland. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and many organizations put together “pink” events to show support, with everyone from local venues to national sports leagues going pink — but the Pink Poker Prance is a favorite among riders.
The trail will follow a new route this year, but participating riders will still collect playing cards along the way with prizes awarded to the top five poker hands. While not a requirement of participation, historically many riders deck themselves and their horses out in pink tack, accessories and apparel from head to toe and poll to pastern — the best five “pink pairs” will also receive prizes.
Past Pink Poker Prances have drawn well over 250 riders, so this year the organizers at Oxford Feed & Lumber are requiring all participants to pre-register. Riders will also select a start time when they register to improve traffic flow, as opposed to previous years during which riders could start at will.
Registration is $35 and includes lunch as well as a T-shirt and commemorative halter for all riding participants. Call 610-932-8521 to register!
