World Equestrian Brands Helmet Cam: Lainey Ashker
Hop aboard “Patrick,” an OTTB event horse piloted by Lainey Ashker, who has a serious zest for life out on the cross-country course at Loch Moy Farm in Maryland.
Helmet cams from amateur recreational riders like myself are plenty of fun to watch — but helmet cams from professionals are equally entertaining as well as educational. Today’s video, from Lainey Ashker aboard her mother Valerie’s OTTB Patrick or “Call Him Paddy,” is one of the smoothest helmet cam cross-country runs we’ve ever watched without being an actually-perfect run: Patrick is loving cross-country so much that Lainey needs to remind him one or twice just who’s piloting this operation.
Watch and observe a master at work (while, if you’re like me, also giggling out loud: “I say that to my horse too! Lainey and I are BFFs!”)
“Simma down now.” Oh yeah, that sounds familiar.
We’re looking forward to see where Patrick and Lainey Ashker head next! While this pair hits the competition trail, Lainey’s mother and Patrick’s owner Valerie is continuing her own version of cross-country: literally riding from coast to coast to raise awareness for off-track Thoroughbreds and demonstrating first-hand the breed’s versatility and heart. As stated by the announcer at Loch Moy on the above video, Valerie’s made it to Colorado from her origin point in California!
Go OTTBs, and go riding!
