Well, That’s Some Bull–
… manure. Eight bulls escaped from their pen a mall rodeo in Massachusettes on Sunday.
In case you missed it, eight bulls escaped from their pen at a mall rodeo in North Attleboro, MA on Sunday, September 22nd. They were on the loose for four hours until most of them were caught four hours later. That’s right — most of them were caught. One was still missing up until yesterday (September 24th) when the final one was captured.
This kind of reminds me of the practical joke people discuss where they turn three pigs loose in ________ (a school, a mall, choose your place) and number them 1, 2, and 4, leaving those who clean up the mess wondering where number three is. Only this was no practical joke.
According to a North Attleboro Fire Department news release, the bulls escaped from their pen around 12:30 p.m. Sunday during a rodeo event at the Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro, about 40 miles south of Boston and close to the Rhode Island border.
“The eight bulls managed to escape their pens, run through the parking lot and jump over a fence surrounding the event’s perimeter,” the news release said. “The bulls then fled south from the parking lot towards the woods behind BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse.”
One of the bulls was caught almost immediately, while six others were found “stuck” behind a fence at someone’s home. We bet that was a heck of a surprise.
“North Attleboro Fire, North Attleboro Police, Attleboro Police and members from the rodeo at the mall and New England Rodeo were able to safely corral the six bulls into a trailer without further incident,” the news release said.
Capturing the final bull turned out to be a bit more difficult. Rodeo employees were out on foot and on horseback, equipped with lassos and searching for the missing bull.
We won’t lie, picturing these wranglers in a Boston suburb paints quite the picture.
In all fairness, those searching were actual cowboys who knew how to handle the bull. Missing pet trackers also went out with a drone and called police when they spotted the bull in the evening on Monday. The animal was caught after what seemed to be a thrilling police chase near the Walmart in North Attleboro.

As someone who originally is from L.A., I have to admit, I’m always down for watching a good police chase. As someone who has horses and likes to play cowgirl on the weekends, I am especially down for watching a good police chase involving a bull.
So…. we have questions. First, what exactly is a mall rodeo? Can anyone shed light on this? Also, how exactly did these bulls escape?
Apparently, the North Attleboro residents are wondering the same thing — at least when it comes to how the animals escaped. The town and the fire department are investigating the circumstances that led up to Sunday’s escape.
