Paris Olympic Happy Hour: Germany Wins Dressage Team Gold, Snoop & Martha Win Our Hearts
Shocking! Hot off the presses! Germany won team dressage gold for its third Games in a row.
It was a close one, though. They edged out Denmark by *gets out calculator* 0.121 of a point. Who said dressage wasn’t a game of inches? Phew!

Here’s your final team leaderboard:
-
- Germany 🥇
- Denmark 🥈
- Great Britain 🥉
- Netherlands
- Belgium
- France
- Sweden
- Finland
- Austria
- Australia
As we noted earlier in the week, Canada, Portugal, Spain and Poland did not qualify in the 10 teams to go to the final, while the United States was eliminated.
Probably the biggest dressage storyline of the day, at least stateside, didn’t emerge from within the 20×60 but from the sidelines.
To be honest, the whole sport of dressage could use a new PR and marketing team (especially in the lead-up to this Olympics, amiright?!) The general public doesn’t “get it,” and we don’t exactly go out of our way to make it make sense or seem relevant to modern-day culture.
But every once in a blue moon, an unlikely hero will rise up to champion our anachronistic quirks and bring dressage alive in the public’s collective imagination.
And not all heroes wear capes.

Listen, we’ll take what we can get. Here’s hoping for some primetime dressage commentary this evening — I’ll update this post with a clip if I can get my hands on one.
Next up! It’s the dressage freestyle tomorrow. Here’s hoping somebody is bringing the heat with a choregraphed Snoop Dogg medley.
Cheers!
