RFD-TV’s The American is a unique rodeo that’s become a “new classic” in western sports: competitors earn their way to AT&T Stadium (yep, where the Dallas Cowboys play) through qualifying events, where they compete against the big stars of the professional circuit, bringing together amateurs or rising professionals with the big guns.

The American in 2019 spotlighted, for the first time, the women’s rodeo event of breakaway roping: a cowgirl ropes a calf and instead of dismounting, flanking and tying it, the rope simply breaks away from her saddle for total time. It’s a unique event for women, and it’s wonderful to see it getting national attention on the American stage.
