Classic Performance of the Week

A performance just two years old might be a little young to be considered a “classic,” but when it comes to the fledgling Pegasus World Cup, two years ago is ancient history.

The Pegasus World Cup will run for the third time ever on Saturday. We’ll bring you all the details and up-to-the-minute odds later this week, but for now, let’s step back in time, all the way back to two whole years ago, when the Pegasus first spread its wings as the richest horse race in the world in 2017.

One of the great rivalries, California Chrome vs. Arrogate, had already experienced one showdown at the Breeders’ Cup Classic in the fall of 2017. Fans were hoping “Chrome” would come out on top in this rematch at Gulfstream Park.

How did it play out?

Arrogate bested Chrome not once but twice, and then went on to win the Dubai World Cup. The horse never seemed the same after his globe-crossing trek to Dubai and back, however, and retired at the end of 2017.

What stories will be written in this weekend’s Pegasus World Cup and Pegasus Turf? We’re on the edge of our seats to find out!

Go riding.
