Kentucky Performance Products ‘Oh Crap’ Monday
Monday is already the crappiest day of the week, so it only makes sense that we make things official: here’s our latest “oh crap” moment, involving, yes, a horse in a dumpster.
Add this one to the list of “unusual ways horses have tried to rack up ridiculously expensive vet bills”: a horse at a Huntington Beach, California equestrian center got loose and wandered to the edge of a cement pad, and then stepped unwittingly onto what looked like another solid surface… and turned out to be the plastic lid on a dumpster.
All jokes about “who would throw out this perfectly nice horse?” aside, this could easily have been a tragic situation ending in the worst-case scenario for this poor horse. Fortunately, he appeared to fall neatly into the dumpster with all four legs squarely beneath him, and the fire department soon arrived for a technical large animal rescue.
Thanks to the omnipresent news chopper, we’re treated to the entire rescue, start to finish. Involving some patience, a good strap/support system and a very smooth forklift operator, this rescue goes off with nary a hitch at all.
For the “TL;DW” (that’s “didn’t watch”) version, jump to about the 20-minute mark and fast-forward at will from there.

Other than a little frantic kicking-out when he finally touches the earth again, this horse seemed to be at ease for the entire rescue (likely sedated, but who can blame him?)
According to reports, the horse was uninjured. A happy ending for all!

About Kentucky Performance Products: Fight back against an energy crisis that can impact condition and performance.
Equi-Jewel® is a high-fat, low starch and sugar formula developed to safely meet the energy needs of your horse.
Whether you have a hard keeper that needs extra calories to maintain his weight, or a top performance horse that needs cool energy to perform at her peak, Equi-Jewel can meet your horse’s needs. Equi-Jewel reduces the risk of digestive upset, supports optimal muscle function, maintains stamina, and helps horses recover faster after hard work, all while providing the calories your horse needs to thrive.
The fat found in rice bran is an extraordinary source of dietary energy. In fact, fat contains more than two times the energy that carbohydrates and proteins do, thereby fueling horses more efficiently. Fat is considered a “cool” feedstuff because it does not cause the hormone spikes that lead to excitability. Adding Equi-Jewel rice bran to your horse’s diet allows you to decrease the amount of starchy concentrates (grains) you feed, reducing the risk of colic and laminitis resulting from grain overload. Equi-Jewel is an excellent source of calories for horses on low sugar and starch diets. The horse that matters to you matters to us®.
