Breeders’ Cup & Retired Racehorse Project Partner to Champion Aftercare
The rider of the 2018 America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred, to be named at this week’s Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover, will be honored at the Breeders’ Cup in November!
While the Breeders’ Cup is crowning of champions in the horse racing world, this year the most exciting weekend of racing in North America will be honoring another champion — the winner of this year’s Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover, kicking off this week from October 4-6 at the Kentucky Horse Park.
The Thoroughbred Makeover will crown its own set of champions in each of ten disciplines that allow ex-racehorses the chance to shine in second careers. Of those ten winners, one will be voted America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred.
In addition to various prizes, this year’s rider of America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred will also receive two tickets to the Breeders’ Cup Championships to be held November 2-3 at Churchill Downs — and be honored in the winner’s circle on Friday between races.
This partnership represents the entire racing industry’s push to spotlight Thoroughbred aftercare and to ensure that every racehorse finds a home and a second career, whether that career is in breeding, working on the track or finding a home as a sporthorse or recreational mount. To have the Retired Racehorse Project honored on the international racing stage at the Breeders’ Cup is a strong sign in support of aftercare!
Tickets are on sale for the Thoroughbred Makeover finale — see the event website for more details. To learn more about the Retired Racehorse Project and its mission, please visit the organization’s website. To learn more about the Breeders’ Cup, please visit the event’s website.
