Ingrid Klimke and Horseware Hale Bob finished on their dressage score to win the individual gold medal at the FEI European Eventing Championships: check out highlights from their performance!

The FEI European Eventing Championships took place in Strzegom, Poland last weekend, with 77 horse and rider combinations fighting for both individual and team honors. Much of the early attention was placed on Germany’s Michael Jung, who had the ability to achieve his fourth European Championship title — and set a new record.

However, it was Jung’s teammate Ingrid Klimke aboard Horseware Hale Bob who would take top individual honors, first by turning in a dressage score of 30.3 for second place (behind teammate Bettina Hoy and Seigneur Medicott’s outrageous and awesome 24.6). Highlights from Klimke’s performance are included:

Coming off of this strong performance, Klimke and “Bobby” made short work of a challenging cross country track designed by Rüdiger Schwarz. They were one of only four pairs that made the optimal time, but you wouldn’t guess from watching Bobby’s eager stride and pricked ears that there was anything particularly challenging going on here.

Sitting in first place after the double clear performance, it was down to stadium jumping to clinch the individual gold — Michael Jung was still within striking distance, meaning that Klimke didn’t have any rails in hand as a buffer to help her maintain the lead.

Despite a rub, the sticks all stayed in place, and Klimke and Bobby had won gold!

“If you’re going to do it, do it on your dressage score.” We couldn’t agree more.
