SpectraVET Perf. of the Week: Devon Pony Races

Competing at the Devon Horse Show is a rite of passage for many equestrians — but our favorite performance remains the pony steeplechase!

Taylor St. Jacques may have won every equitation class she entered last weekend; McLain Ward and Beezie Madden might be facing off in the Grand Prix on Thursday… there are hundreds of great performances and stories coming out of the Devon Horse Show, but in true Horse Nation fashion we can’t help but be drawn to the best spectacle of them all: the pony steeplechase.

What’s more enjoyable than watching these pint-sized tough-as-nails jockeys piloting the pluckiest of ponies around a steeplechase course in the famed Dixon Oval?

US Pony Racing is a formalized sport, allowing youth the opportunity to learn more about and compete in hunt racing. Ponies must be older than five and no taller than 14.2, and youth must be no older than 16. What a way to get your start in the saddle.
