Fantasy Farm Thursday: $7m Manor in Maryland
Your own little slice of history, complete with fancy marble bathrooms!
Oh Maryland, my Maryland. With your weird checkered flag and delicious crab cakes, crab dip, and crab salad. You will forever be a little bit my home.
And if you, dear reader, have $7 million to spare, Maryland could be a little bit your home as well at this pristine historic manor and equestrian estate in Ellicott City.
First off, I LOVE this location. It’s a hybrid area of rural space with all the conveniences, and it’s not far from Washington, D.C. if you need a night of culture or a day of museum hopping (and the Washington International Horse Show, of course!)
Second, if you like museums and history, you’re going to love this: The property was once owned by Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence! It’s like owning your own little piece of history. But let’s get on to the other good stuff, shall we?
The Property
Folly Quarter Manor is perched atop a darling hill and contains 54 acres of lush Maryland acreage. There are beautiful pasture spaces with loafing sheds and perfectly maintained fencing on a quiet back road away from the traffic and suburban frenzy. You’re surrounded by other large estates and farms, so it’s going to stay quiet for a long time to come. The property also showcases a beautiful and practical water feature.
The Barn
The historic 10-stall barn is a positive gem, with the iconic stone foundation, big carriage doors, brick-paved walkways, and top-of-the-line woodwork throughout the interior and exterior. They really, truly, just don’t make them like this anymore.
There aren’t currently permanently fixtured arenas, but a grand prix field could easily be established in one of the many greenspaces, or an indoor or outdoor added seamlessly into the landscape.
The Home
The home is in exceptional condition, and has been updated and restored to the finest of appointments throughout. The main residence is 8,000 feet, and there’s also a stone guest cottage and property manager’s residence on site.
Also, the bathrooms are legit.
Many thanks to Elaine Brens with Christie’s International Real Estate for sharing this property with us, and you can find out more about Folly Quarter Manor by visiting the original listing on their website.
