SpectraVET Performance: Todd Bergen & Some Kinda Merada
Check out the winning ride from the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s Derby Open Finals!
The sport of reined cow horse is the ultimate western competition: entries compete in two phases including dry work, or a reining pattern, and cattle work. The cattle phase includes boxing, or showing control of the cow at one end of the arena, at least two fence turns and circling the cow in each direction. Some levels of competition also include herd work to demonstrate cutting ability.
The National Reined Cow Horse Association, or NRCHA, recently held its Derby on July 13-16 in Paso Robles, California. Todd Bergen and Some Kinda Merada were crowned Open level champions. Check out the dry work and cattle work below!
Todd Bergen is currently the leading NRCHA professional and a Two Million Dollar Rider. Some Kinda Merada is a 2011 mare owned by Cable Creek Ranch of Aurora, Oregon; this is her first major win. Bergen and Some Kinda Merada earned a high score of 227 on the cow work, which pushed their composite score (herd work, dry work and cow work combined) to 670.5 for the win.
