15 Reader-Submitted Tolerant Horses: Best of Show
If you thought the last collection was a group of bombproof steady-eddies, you won’t believe what this group puts up with.
Our 24-hour photo challenge this week called for “tolerant horses,” giving you guys the freedom to decide just how best to portray that quality. Many submissions fell under one of the three categories of costumes, clothes or tarps (which we highlighted earlier) but there were a few outstanding individuals doing their own thing as well. Enjoy this collection of truly tolerant steeds!
Christy Castle: “My colt saw an opportunity to pick on his babysitter and took full advantage. This old guy was a trooper though, and calmly walked to the gate to get help”
Kassie Strohmeyer: “Practicing a showmanship pattern, the little girl holding her while I set cones up, thought it would be funny to do this.”
Elizabeth Relosky: “My therapy horse Edward putting up with wearing sneakers, being indoors, with strangers all over him, after being loved on by children. My little guy skis rides in the backseat of the pickup truck with me, rides in elevators, and dresses up in ridiculous costumes for the local kids to enjoy every Halloween. Therapy horses rock!”

Lauren Gast: “My gelding Spanky put up with a lot!! This was some fun we had when a guy at the barn brought his guitar to the barn.”
Emily Bernstein: “My friend’s horse Milton will let her do anything with him. When she dresses him up for a Halloween Gymkhana, he never cares but usually manages to spook the other horses . Here, he is a piñata”
Christina Hansen: “F. Scott the NYC carriage horse utterly relaxed next to a spinning cement mixer on 59th St. in Manhattan.”
Dawn Novitski: “The 150+ local third graders raised money for our therapeutic program. So I took my gelding over there for 7 hours and they all took turns signing him. They thought it was awesome and he stood like a champ all day.”
Caitlin Slaughter: “My QH gelding is so tolerant of The Mare Glare! That is his “girlfriend” Echo, and they are never far from each other, regardless of her *moods*…. I probably should have entered this photo in the Mare Glare contest last week too!”
