15 Reader-Submitted Winter Riding Getups
Cue the quarter-sheets, Carhartts and the ever-present “base layer.” Cozy up, Horse Nation, and take look at your fellow freezing equestrians.
For this week’s 24-hour photo challenge, we wanted to see your winter wear for the barn–and as usual, you guys really delivered.

Stephanie Souther Johnson: This was a year ago I had a shirt, sweatshirt, coat, scarf and fleece bandana, and bronchitis but I got to see my pony for a few minutes.

Fearless Leader Leslie Wylie: In the winter I can’t live without my Carhartts!

Rebecca Waldron: Two shirts, a sweatshirt, carhartt, scarf, two pairs of gloves, fleece lined breeches, wool socks, foot warmers, insulated boots, and a quarter sheet to keep my horse’s back warm(and my thighs). I think it was about 10°F(plus snow pelting us in the face)and not the coldest I’ve ridden in. Gotta love Colorado winters.

Lindsey Hellmuth: Trail riding in Virginia in January 2015! Not the coldest winter I’ve been in but doll cold!!!

Heather Hartland: This is Vera and I a few years back in PA on Black Friday, I had too many layers to count on, plus my Ariat Insulated jacket and boots. I also had on my Carhartt ear warmer and neck gaiter, and who could forget the fleece lined gloves!

Melissa Shell: This was last weekend, had on a base layer, insulated sweats, 2 coats,2 pairs of socks. The joys of North Dakota winter riding. it was 10 degrees
And last but not least, one warm-weather winter to make us all feel that much colder:
